Mindful Mondays: Mumford & Sons

Each Monday, I would like to share a reminder about the importance of being mindful.  These will come from literature, popular culture, music--anywhere one might get this sort of everyday life nudge.

Today's feature is a song entitled "Awake My Soul," by Mumford & Sons, from their 2009 (UK)/ 2010  (US/Canada) Sigh No More album.

"Awake My Soul"--lyrics provided by AZLyrics

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know
My weakness I feel I must finally show

Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all
But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall
Lend me your eyes I can change what you see
But your soul you must keep, totally free

Har har, har har, har har, har har

Awake my soul
Awake my soul

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know
My weakness I feel I must finally show
Har har, har har, har har, har har

In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life
In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
And where you invest your love, you invest your life

Awake my soul
Awake my soul
Awake my soul

For you were made to meet your maker

Awake my soul
Awake my soul
Awake my soul

For you were made to meet your maker
You were made to meet your maker

I love this song, because so often we forget or ignore that we shape our own lives.  Whatever we make a priority in our lives will be what have made our lives' works.  We get a certain amount of time in each day, so we must be selective and aware of how we invest our time, energy, love and ultimately our lives.  A similar statement, given to me years ago as framed art, is "Live what you love."  Simple.  Direct.  Wise.

Today, be sure to spend your time in a way befitting how you want to invest your life, because this is your life.
